Letter: Schmidt will fight for a safer Kansas
From the Coffey County Republican, October 15, 2010
Dear Editor:
The purpose of this letter is to encourage everyone to participate in the upcoming election. In a race that should be of particular interest to informed voters, I want to urge the citizens of Coffey County to join me in casting a vote for Derek Schmidt as our next Attorney General.
I consider myself fortunate to have had Derek serve as my State Senator for the past 10 years. During this time I have gotten to know Derek both personally and professionally. I have had an opportunity to see how he works, how he cares for his family and how he represents his constituents. I know him to be a man of integrity, strong work ethic and keen intellect. These are exactly the qualities that will serve all Kansans well when Derek is given the opportunity to serve as Attorney General.
During Derek Schmidt’s time in the Senate, he has worked to make Kansas a safer place to live and raise a family. His work in drafting and supporting legislation has led to fewer meth labs in Kansas, presumptive prison sentences for repeat property crime offenders and the passage of Jessica’s Law – which authorizes life sentences for child molesters. These are just a few examples of Derek Schmidt working for a safer Kansas. Simply put, Derek has a proven record of identifying problems, figuring out solutions and then doing the work necessary to make positive changes in the law.
